It's really been great weather for the beach lately,
but about as close as I've been able to get to it is
to look at my sand collection! You might have
caught a peek of it before.
I started collecting sand as a souvenir of travels
about 12 years ago. It took a while to get them
organised into bottles with labels and then to find
corks to fit the bottles, but eventually they
came together.
There is sand and pebbles from pretty far flung places,
Nerja, Spain
![]() |
Green's Pool, Denmark, Western Australia
but some of my favourites are Australian beaches and
many from my home state of Western Australia.
Beach at Santa Margherita, Italy
Cottesloe Beach, and Indiana Tea House, Perth, W.A.
Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Island, Queensland
Cable Beach, Broome, W.A.
Anzac Cove, Gallipoli, Turkey
Sand from Anzac Cove, Gallipoli, is pretty special.
Parker Point, Rottnest Island, W.A.
And there are great memories of family holidays at
Rottnest Island as a child.
I'm on the lookout for another set of bottles now,
as I've run out of this type.
What do you collect when you travel?

ReplyDeleteA very original, attractive idea, and also tied up with lots and lots of special memories.
ReplyDeleteI tend to bring back local arts and crafts objects for the home, or maybe a local food speciality.
